Survived the Return Trip

I survived the return trip to the Great Northwest.

Charlie, thanks again for all you do to preserve Central history.  The persimmon bread was great.

Buffy, thanks for sharing what seems to have been the “rooky” table at Ryans.  Appreciate you attitude and willingness to be a part of the effort and to help bridge the gap between the two Centrals.  Thanks too for your generous donation to the Central Historical Marker Fund.

Bobby, stop trying to convince folks you aren’t in the lead on the historical marker project.  Thanks for tipping a couple or….. with me on Thursday and Friday.  I’m always nervous of the unexpected when traveling to the airport for a trip, so I did not go by the Tennessee Historical Commission.

Graduated from Central in 1965. Had the honor of being Mr. Central 1965. Started on the Central Basketball Team for three years and was a member of the Track Team in my senior year. Shared command with Bryant Millsaps of the Central JROTC unit in my senior year. Other activites at Central are documented in the 1963 -1965 Champions. Received an athletic scholarship and played Division I College Basketball for four years. When I graduated from Auburn in 1969, I was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Adjutant General Corps and served 25 years on active duty, retiring in 1994. Some of the military awards I earned include the Legion of Merit, one Meritorious Service Medal for Achievement, six Meritorious Service Medals for Service, Joint Service Medal for Achievement, two Army Commendations Medals, and Viet Nam Service Medal. After retirement in 1994, I became a Real Estate Broker until my second retirement in 2010. I am passionate about Central History and am pleased to be Administrator of this Blog/Site.

  1. I regret not spending more time with you guys this time around. Next time, hopefully at or around the time of marker dedication, I’d like to spend more time sharing memories and getting to know everyone a bit more. FYI, Duncan Kelly never did return any of my phone messages or e-mail, so I’m assuming he would rather we deal through the Leadership connection. Meanwhile if Buffy and Bobby will represent us in that vein, I’ll try and complete a set of Yearbooks and early Digests on disk we can offer as collateral. Everyone I met last week was a Champion; proud to be a part of the team.
